UCS Climate Hotmap

Embark on our Climate Hot Map Scavenger Hunt for your chance to win!

Not only does the Climate Hot Map allow you to explore the places (or "hot spots") where scientists have gathered evidence of climate changes that are already under way, but you have the chance to join scientists in the field and help them measure the impacts of climate change with one of the following trips from Earthwatch Institute:

* Climate Change in Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest: Help find answers to the challenges of climate change within the rich forests of the Rio Cachoeira Natural Reserve, Brazil. As part of Earthwatch’s comprehensive forest research program, assessing the impacts of climate change on forests worldwide, this is your chance to play an integral role in research that seeks to better understand how forests are responding to climate change.

* Climate Change in Chesapeake Bay Forests: Be part of cutting-edge climate change research taking place in five countries across the world by exploring Chesapeake Bay region forests. Forests are incredibly complex ecosystems that hold many of the keys to combating climate change and tracking its effects. You’ll spend this expedition unraveling the secrets of the Eastern Deciduous forests around the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater, Maryland.

The grand prize winner will receive registration for two for the trip of their choice as well as the cost of airfare to the rendezvous site as described by Earthwatch. As we do for all organization-related travel, the Union of Concerned Scientists will also purchase carbon offsets for the flights.

In addition, five runners-up will receive a Solio Mono Hybrid Solar Charger. This light-weight (13 ounce) solar-powered charger is compatible with iPhones, iPods, Blackberrys, or any Micro-USB device. Great for traveling or quick sun-powered charging at home.
