San Joaquin Valley Passes Rule to Reduce Air Pollution

UCS activists in the Central Valley joined forces with other members of the Central Valley Air Quality Coalition to support the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District's new rules to reduce pollution from construction equipment, traffic, and increased electricity use that come with new development projects. UCS activists sent comments to the Board, wrote letters to the editor in local papers, and joined others in packing the hearing room on the day of the vote. The result: the board unanimously passed rules that require developers to eliminate pollution from new projects or pay a reasonable fee that would be used to reduce air pollution from other sources! These are the first such rules ever passed in the U.S.
