Northeast & Mid-Atlantic

From cutting-edge transportation policy to offshore wind farms, we’re pushing the Northeast to do even better.

From cutting-edge transportation policy to offshore wind farms, we’re pushing the Northeast to do even better.

The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region enjoys some of the strongest environmental protections in the country. Solar and wind energy grow every year, electric vehicles are hitting the streets, and a regional cap-and-trade program is helping cut carbon emissions from the power sector.

But it’s not all progress. Many states in the region risk an overreliance on natural gas, and transportation is now the region’s largest source of carbon pollution.

From our headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and our office in Washington DC, the Union of Concerned Scientists has long tackled a range of issues in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. We’re fighting for strong state-level policies on everything from renewable energy, to transportation, to nuclear weapons.

You can help. Visit our action center or consider donating. The Northeast is a model for the rest of the nation—and we can do better.
