California and Western States Global Warming 101

Our most populous state, California generates a large carbon footprint. If it were an independent nation, the Golden State would be the world’s 9th largest economy, and would rank 14th in global warming pollution from fossil fuel sources. Thankfully, California has made history by establishing innovative global warming policies that have served as models for other states and the federal government.

For example, 14 states adopted California’s landmark global warming standards for cars and trucks, pushing the federal government to adopt a similar standard.  California is also setting a high bar for state renewable energy standards by aiming to use renewable sources for a third of the state’s electricity by 2020. California has also adopted the world’s most comprehensive plan to cut global warming pollution across the entire economy.
