ENERGY USE
Currently, most of the Great Lakes region’s electricity comes from burning fossil fuels. That means the more energy we use, the more heat-trapping emissions we dump into our atmosphere. By using energy more efficiently, we could reduce these emissions and help curb climate change. The good news is that we can reduce our energy consumption and save money without lowering our standard of living.

We can also reduce energy consumption and air pollution by using energy more efficiently. Many programs that promote energy efficiency are already in place throughout the Great Lakes region and nationally. The federal ‘Energy Star’ program provides labeling for energy efficient appliances-from light bulbs to refrigerators- that helps individuals and companies select products and implement processes that reduce energy consumption.
