VEHICLE DESIGN
The transportation sector is responsible for roughly one-third of total heat-trapping gas emissions; the majority of these emissions come from passenger cars and light trucks (this includes minivans, SUVs, and pick-ups). Several approaches are available today to reduce emissions through better vehicle design and new fuels.

Solution strategies: VEHICLE FUEL EFFICIENCY ADVANCED VEHICLES LOW-CARBON FUELS

Raising mileage standards for new cars and light-trucks would save the United States and Canada billions of dollars at the fuel pump while reducing millions of tons of heat-trapping carbon dioxide emissions, smog-forming pollutants and other toxic emissions without sacrificing vehicle safety.
