VEHICLE DESIGN
The transportation sector is responsible for roughly one-third of total heat-trapping gas emissions; the majority of these emissions come from passenger cars and light trucks (this includes minivans, SUVs, and pick-ups). Several approaches are available today to reduce emissions through better vehicle design and new fuels.

Solution strategies: VEHICLE FUEL EFFICIENCY ADVANCED VEHICLES LOW-CARBON FUELS

By switching from vehicle fuels with high carbon content such as gasoline to others with lower carbon content, such as ethanol or hydrogen made from renewable sources, vehicles produce fewer emissions of heat-trapping gases. Such fuels also reduce our dependence on oil.
