Daniel Kalb

California Policy Manager

Profile

As the Union of Concerned Scientists' (UCS) California policy coordinator, Dan Kalb spends most of his time working with state legislators, regulators, civic leaders, and other environmental groups promoting clean vehicles, renewable energy, and global warming legislation in California. He also works with the state Legislature and relevant state agencies to implement strong policies to reduce heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions. A veteran at working with the media, Mr. Kalb has appeared on PBS's NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and been interviewed by dozens of reporters on various local and state environmental issues. Mr. Kalb has been quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury News.

Before arriving at UCS, he worked at such organizations as the Sierra Club, California Common Cause, Media Alliance, California League of Conservation Voters, and MassPIRG. While director of a local Sierra Club chapter, Mr. Kalb took a lead role in preventing San Francisco International Airport from expanding into San Francisco Bay—an expansion that would have harmed the bays ecology and brought more air pollution to the region.

Mr. Kalb received his bachelor's degree in Conservation of Natural Resources from the University of California at Berkeley, and has a master's degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco.  Mr. Kalb is the former vice-chair of the San Francisco Ethics Commission, and has been a policy advisor and campaign volunteer for selected candidates for local and state legislative office.
