Profile
Jim Kliesch, an engineer with expertise in clean and efficient vehicle technologies, is a senior engineer with UCS. He has authored or co-authored numerous books, articles and reports for both technical and mainstream audiences, and works on a wide variety of topics, from detailed vehicle technology evaluations to impact assessments of vehicle policies on global warming pollution and America's oil dependence. He is the author of UCS' recent assessment of fuel economy potential, "Setting the Standard: How Cost-Effective Technology Can Increase Vehicle Fuel Economy."
Before joining UCS, Mr. Kliesch spent eight years with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) where he was the author and lead analyst for the organization's consumer guide to eco-friendly vehicles, "ACEEE's Green Book®: The Environmental Guide to Cars and Trucks," and its online counterpart, greenercars.org. His technical reports include, among others, environmental and economic appraisals of plug-in hybrids and diesel passenger vehicles.
Mr. Kliesch has been widely cited in the national media, including the Detroit Free Press, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Washington Post and has appeared on CNN, CNBC, and the BBC. He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Ohio University, and a master's degree in environmental and energy policy from the University of Delaware.
