Profile
As an energy economist at the Union
of Concerned Scientists (UCS), Maureen Reno promotes the development of
clean energy technologies and policies in the electricity sector. She designs and evaluates various energy
policies at the state, regional, and national levels to maximize economic
benefits and overcome market barriers to renewable energy.
Ms. Reno has honed her expertise in sustainable energy policy and regulatory
utility finance over the past decade. Prior to working at UCS, Ms. Reno worked
for the Sustainable Energy Division of the New Hampshire Public Utilities
Commission (NHPUC) as the program manager of New Hampshire’s Renewable
Portfolio Standard (RPS) Program. She
also worked on net metering and utilities’ energy efficiency programs for the NHPUC’s
Electric Division, as well as on the development and implementation of the RPS
and New Hampshire’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Ms. Reno also was the NHPUC’s expert witness
on financial issues regarding the regulation of electric, natural gas, and water
utilities.
Ms. Reno has an M.A. in economics from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics, where she also completed doctoral course work in environmental economics and industrial organization.
