Profile
Regina R. Clewlow is a Ph.D. candidate in the engineering systems division (ESD) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her research as a Kendall Fellow is focused on examining demand for high-speed rail and air transportation systems, their environmental impacts, and their performance under climate policies.
At MIT, Ms. Clewlow has served as a research assistant at the Partnership for AiR Transportation Noise and Emissions Reduction (PARTNER), working on studies to examine the climate impacts of aviation. She spent the summer of 2010 as a visiting research student at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and the summer of 2011 as a visiting scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, where her research focused on high-speed transportation demand in Europe and China (respectively).
In 2002, she co-founded Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) and served as its first executive director until 2008. She provided leadership, vision and direction to create a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing engineers to build a sustainable world through education, training and practical action. Ms. Clewlow received a Society of Women Engineers New Face of Engineering award in 2005 and a KQED Bay Area Local Hero Award in 2008 for her service as executive director of ESW.
Ms. Clewlow received her Bachelor of Science in computer science and Master of Engineering in civil and environmental engineering from Cornell University. She is the recipient of an MIT Energy Fellowship, MIT Martin Family Sustainability Fellowship, Eisenhower Graduate Transportation Fellowship, and Environmental Protection Agency STAR Graduate Fellowship.
