Statement by Peter Frumhoff, UCS Director of Science and Policy
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (July 20, 2010) — The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) notes with great sadness the passing of Stanford University climate scientist Stephen H. Schneider, who died yesterday at the age of 65. Below is a statement by Peter Frumhoff, UCS director of science and policy.
"We have lost a world-class scientist and a great man. Steve had a tireless commitment to understanding and communicating the risks of climate change, a gift for collaborating across diverse disciplines, and an unflinching courage of conviction in forcefully speaking out against misrepresentations of climate science and attacks on scientists.
"I had the privilege of collaborating with Steve on a number of initiatives , including a groundbreaking study of the impacts of climate change on California. He was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to all who seek to bring unvarnished science to bear on sustaining our planet."
