UCS Engineer Will Testify Before Senate on Electric Cars
The Senate Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow to consider the Promoting Electric Vehicles Act of 2010 (S. 3495). More information about the hearing and a live webcast are available online.
David Friedman, research director for the Union of Concerned Scientists' Clean Vehicles Program, will testify at the hearing. He says this bill and a companion bill in the House could "move electric drive technologies into the fast lane." He recommends both bills to be updated to ensure they provide a level playing field for all electric drive vehicles and the necessary fueling infrastructure to support them. The bills, he adds, are part of the broader debate about comprehensive clean energy and climate change legislation, which he says must include a price on carbon emissions.
Friedman's testimony will be available on the UCS website at the start of the hearing.
