UCS Launches New Searchable Map of Nuclear Reactors, Safety Problems

The Union of Concerned Scientists today launched a searchable Web-based map that tracks nuclear power plant safety information. This new tool is called the Nuclear Power Information Tracker.

The map features operating, permanently closed, and proposed nuclear reactors in the continental United States. Users can filter the number of reactors shown on the map based on five safety issues, including outages, groundwater tritium leaks, and elevated spent fuel pools. Moving a cursor over and/or clicking on a reactor will bring up more in-depth information about each reactor, including owner and licensing dates; local population; past and present safety issues; UCS letters to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC); and testimony to Congress.

The Union of Concerned Scientists puts rigorous, independent science to work to solve our planet's most pressing problems. Joining with citizens across the country, we combine technical analysis and effective advocacy to create innovative, practical solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future.
