2012 UCS Editorial Cartoon Contest Winner

Isabella Bannerman of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY

This year’s UCS Editorial Cartoon Contest winner is Isabella Bannerman of New York. Her cartoon will grace the cover of the 2013 Editorial Cartoon Calendar, as well as the month of March.

Isabella became interested in the environment as she grew up near Lake Erie, where she witnessed some of the problems caused by pollution. Her interest in art and science was also fostered by her father, a researcher in genetics. She now lives with her family in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, where she enjoys being a part of a lively environmentalist community. This community includes journalist Iris Hiskey Arno, who introduced Isabella to UCS.

Isabella's artwork has appeared in many publications, including The San Francisco Bay Guardian, The New York Times, and World War 3 Illustrated. She has also worked as an animator for clients such as “MTV”, “Pee Wee's Playhouse,” and the children's tv show, “Doug.” Since 2000, she has been the Monday cartoonist for King Feature's daily comic strip, Six Chix. Her other work can also be seen on her website, http://www.isabellabannerman.com/Isabella_Bannerman.html.
