The Office of Science and Technology Policy Public Comment Period

On March 3, President Obama formally asked the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to develop methods to restore scientific integrity to the executive branch. In his instructions (pdf), the president put forth a set of guiding principles heavily informed by recommendations UCS presented to the presidential transition team this past winter. The OSTP accepted public comments to help shape its proposals through 3pm on May 13.

UCS would like to thank the multitude of scientists, government workers, community organizations, and activists who weighed in on this critical issue.

We have identified a number of topics that should be addressed by the OSTP in our comments on the presidential memorandum on scientific integrity (pdf). You may also wish to refer to our presidential transition recommendations or our report, Federal Science and the Public Good. Each resource details solutions that will help restore scientific integrity to federal policy making.

For more information on the OSTP public comment period, please view the official announcement in the federal register (pdf).
