Who Should Sign on?

The sign-on statement is intended for scientists with or working towards advanced degrees in life, physical, social, and mathematical sciences; scientists with or working towards advanced degrees in health fields; and all engineers. Advanced degrees include both master's and doctorate level degrees.

The statement sign-on criteria are primarily based on a National Science Foundation listing of science-related occupations. The listing can be found at http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/nsf03310/appb.htm.

Exceptions to the criteria established in the NSF document:
-- We invite health professionals or other life scientists with a masters degree or who are working toward such a degree to sign the statement.

If you are not eligible to sign on, we still value your interest in this campaign. You can join the UCS Activist Network to stay involved.

Examples of individuals with advanced degrees who should sign:
Physicists, Chemists, Biologists,
Earth and environmental scientists
Health professionals
Engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians
Psychologists, Sociologists, Anthropologists, Geographers, Linguists

Examples of individuals who should not sign.  If you are a citizen but not a scientist, please sign join the UCS Action Network!
Science writers without advanced technical science degrees
Doctors in Education with a science focus
Elementary and secondary school teachers
Environmental lawyers
Individuals with degrees in library science
Computer Programmers
