Palm oil, a common ingredient in nearly half of all processed foods and cosmetic products from granola bars to soap, is a major driver of deforestation and global warming as tropical forests are cleared to create palm plantations. Tropical deforestation accounts for about 10 percent of the world’s global warming emissions. But producing deforestation-free palm oil is entirely possible. UCS is working with fast food, personal care, and packages food companies to ensure they adopt strong deforestation-free palm oil policies that protect our climate and tropical forests. Here’s how you can help!

UCS is calling on companies that use palm oil to adopt strong, deforestation-free sourcing policies and has ranked some of America's biggest brands on their commitments to deforestation-free palm oil. Consumers can buy deforestation-free products whenever possible, demanding that more companies make public declarations to go deforestation-free, and then hold them to their word.
