Mr. Hickler's career was in the software industry, with an emphasis on system programming, technical computing, and global information systems. He lives in Denver, CO, and since retiring, he has worked on technical development for a micro credit non-governmental organization, compliance work for two U.S. Senate campaigns, was the past president of the Swallow Hill Music Association, a guitar teacher, and a drummer for an African dance ensemble. He has a commitment to social justice and sane planetary occupancy.
