Jimmy O'Dea

Jimmy O’Dea is a senior vehicles analyst in the Clean Vehicles program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. In his role, he focuses on cleaner vehicle and freight technologies and policies. Previously, Dr. O’Dea developed energy and climate policies for Senator Brian Schatz during an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Engineering Congressional Fellowship awarded by the Materials Research Society and Optical Society. Dr. O’Dea’s legislative experience includes carbon pricing, renewable energy tax credits, and deforestation.

Prior to working on Capitol Hill, Dr. O’Dea was a postdoctoral research associate at Cornell University, where he studied materials to increase the durability of hydrogen fuel cells. He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Puget Sound.
