Ilana Solomon is the federal campaign director for the Union of Concerned Scientists. In her role, she coordinates across the organization to develop federal campaigns and strategies that ensure a robust defense against attacks on science and science-based policy.
Prior to joining UCS, Ms. Solomon was director of the responsible trade program for the Sierra Club, where she led efforts to create public support for trade and investment rules that protect the environment, and to shed light on the environmental threats posed by our current global trading system. She directed a successful campaign with partners and allies to defeat the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. Before that, she was a senior policy analyst at ActionAid USA, where she led that organization’s work supporting US policies to address the impacts of climate change in developing countries.
Ms. Solomon earned an M.A. in international service from American University, and a B.A. in Latin American studies and music from Oberlin College. She has been published in The Huffington Post, and has been quoted in outlets including the BBC, Financial Times, Mother Jones, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
