The administration claimed that scientific evidence supported their decision, but they got the science all wrong.
What happened: On October 6, 2017, the Trump administration issued rules that roll back the birth control mandate of the Affordable Care Act, i.e. the guarantee that insurance companies must cover birth control whether they like it or not. Now companies can more easily refuse to cover birth control costs for their employees.
Why it matters: The administration claimed that scientific evidence supported their decision, but they got the science all wrong. The evidence actually shows that the health effects of birth control are minimal and the benefits are tremendous. It's another example of how the administration is harming public health by dismissing science.
