Sophie Ackoff

Sophie Ackoff is the Farm Bill Campaign Director for the Food & Environment program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. In her role, Sophie works with a coalition made up of frontline food justice partners and BIPOC-led organizations to advocate for a transformational Food and Farms Bill.

Prior to joining UCS, Sophie served as co-executive director of the National Young Farmers Coalition, a grassroots coalition of farmers, ranchers, and consumers fighting for an equitable future for farming. During her tenure, the coalition won historic funding for beginning farmer training and equitable land access, increased access to credit, COVID relief, and more.

Sophie’s work has been featured in ABC News, Bloomberg Government, Civil Eats, EatingWell Magazine, Mother Jones, NBC News, the New York Times, Politico, Reuters, and Washington Post. Sophie was named an Emerging Leader in Food and Agriculture in 2020, and one of 25 Leaders in Food and Agriculture to Watch by Food Tank in 2019. She holds a BA in biology and environmental studies from Wesleyan University.
