Val Schaffner spent part of his working life as a newspaper reporter and editor, covering local environmental issues. Later he and his wife Min-Myn opened an art gallery in Chelsea, where they hosted events for various nonprofit groups. He is the author of three books, manages a family foundation, and is a member of the Leadership Councils of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Oxfam. Val and Min-Myn live in New York City with their three children.
